As one of our valued employees, much of our company’s strength and success depends on you! That is why we want to make sure that our workplace helps you maintain or even improve your overall health. We strongly believe that the everyday choices we make can help us live healthier and happier lives, both at work and at home. Therefore, HRS has recently started a corporate account with LA Fitness that will help all of us increase our knowledge about health matters, explore fun ways to eat healthier, improve our level of physical fitness, and more!
The program is completely voluntary, but we hope you’ll find activities that inspire you to participate. With Heartland’s Corporate membership, your member initiation fee of $99, and $25 for adding additional members, will be completely waived! In addition to the waived initiation fees, you will have access to:
A complimentary hour with LA Fitness’s personal training department. This session includes at minimum a fitness assessment for:
Assessment of individual’s current fitness level
Employees can enroll themselves and their family members online or in a club with a HRS voucher (will be mailed to you). For website enrollment:
If you would like to enroll a family member you will need an additional voucher to waive their initiation fees. Please contact the HRS office for additional vouchers. Also, you will be mailed a complimentary 15-day workout pass that can be used at any LA Fitness facility.
Call or stop by your local LA fitness for more information about monthly membership fees and starting a membership and don’t forget to tell them you are a Heartland employee.
Heartland is going green!
This past in-service, Heartland announced its plans to start using Accel software for documentation. We are ready to implement this software. There will be a mandatory training for all direct care staff. You will receive a letter with more details regarding the dates, times and locations.
We are very excited about the benefits this software will bring our company along with the improvement of our processes. We hope you are too!
Heartland is happy to announce that we have been issued another 3-year CARF accreditation based on it’s recent survey! This is a tremendous accomplishment, made possible by all of our staff members and their ongoing efforts to to provide exceptional services to the persons we serve!
Dear Direct Care Staff Employee:
The Indiana General Assembly passed House Enrolled Act 1001 which mandated a 5 percent rate increase for specific services provided under the FSW and CIH waivers. While this increase is specifically for direct care wages and costs, this doesn’t mean that all direct care staff will see a pay increase.
We are excited to be participating in this plan and we will be able to increase compensation to direct care staff in various areas as follows:
The evaluation of individual employee pay rates is continuing. Some direct care staff have already received pay rate increases; however, we cannot say who specifically will receive a raise, but you will be notified of any increase.

Hello all! September 10-16th is DSP appreciation week! We would like to thank all of our wonderful and caring direct care staff for the love and companionship that they show to our clients every day. Our direct care staff are such an important part of our team. To show our appreciation, we will have something special planned this year during our annual in-service training later this month! #DSPsRock
Heartland would like to thank guest speaker, Gordon Holmes of Mass Mutual Financial, for speaking at our annual Guardian Round-table about financial stability for those with special needs. We also want to thank all of the Guardians who attended and hope you found the meeting helpful and informative. It was a great to see you all.
Every year, Heartland recognizes a culturally diverse, historical figure. This year, that is Katherine G. Johnson who was an African-American mathematician who made contributions to the United States’ aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA. Her calculations were critical to the success of the early NASA missions of John Glenn and Alan Shepard, and the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon, through the Space Shuttle program.
The corporate office will be closed on Friday, 8/25/17 in observance of Katherine G. Johnson day and this will be a paid holiday for our Direct Care staff members.

Heartland has had an amazing year!
Heartland has had some very eventful activities this year! We are very proud of the turn out at our corporate movie day, client prom, company picnic, Halloween bash, Christmas party and other events! Be sure to check the events calendar for upcoming events for 2017!
Last year, Heartland became an active member of the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR). ANCOR is a national, nonprofit trade association representing more than 1,200 private community providers of services to people with disabilities. With this partnership, Heartland is hoping gain access to innovation and technology, advocacy as well a professional development opportunities in the field that will enhance the lives of the individuals that we serve.
Last year, Heartland purchased 2 Handicap accessible vans. The addition of these vehicles is to increase the quality of life for our clients, by providing safe transport into the community.
Heartland rolled out it’s first Direct Care Staff referral program in 2016. With this program, our employees our rewarded for referring qualified employees to our program. This program has helped with recruiting direct care staff, and we plan to continue this program throughout 2017!
Heartland has continue to support and be involved with the Special Olympics. Last year, HRS clients participated in numerous Special Olympics events and activities. Heartland is a faithful donor and supporter of the Special Olympics and we plan to remain heavily involved in their events in the upcoming years!
In late 2017, HRS is up for our CARF re-accreditation. We are excited to share with CARF that progress we have made in continually improving the lives of the individuals that we serve!
This year for cultural diversity, we will be celebrating the accomplishments of Katherine G. Johnson. In honor of her achievements, the office the corporate office will be closed on Friday, August 25 and this will be a paid holiday for all direct care staff members. Please check the events calendar for information on all 2017 office closures and paid holidays.
Heartland appreciates the love and companionship that our Direct Care Staff show to our client each and every day. We currently show that appreciation through merit bonuses and recognizing employees of the year. Going forward, Heartland plans to celebrate DSP appreciation week by doing something extra special for our staff members, in an effort to show our gratitude and continue to recruit the best possible staff for our clients!
In an effort to continue our involvement in the community, Heartland plans to increase Expo participation as well as partnerships. One of these partnership is with the Aktion Club – Kiwanis Program for Adults with Disabilities. Aktion Club is the only service club for adults with disabilities, with more than 12,000 members worldwide. Aktion Club draws members from various organizations that support individuals with disabilities, as well as other community programs. Aktion clubs can also be established at churches, libraries, YMCAs, lodges or similar facilities. A Kiwanis club, composed of like-minded, service-oriented people from the community, serves as the club’s sponsor.
In addition to this, Heartland plans to add a Director of Development, to help with expansion and increasing active involvement in the community.
Every year, Heartland celebrates diversity by recognizing a historical figure. This year, on September 24th, we recognize Saigō Takamori. Saigō Takamori was one of the pro-imperial samurai supporting the Meiji Restoration. He has often been called the “last true samurai”.
In honor of Saigo Takamori, September 24th, 2016 will be a paid Holiday for all direct care staff. Heartland’s Corporate Office will also be closed on Monday September 26th. #CelebrateHistory #CelebrateDiversity

Heartland is always looking to find qualified and dedicated direct care staff to provide the best possible services to our clients. We have encouraged referrals for new staff members on a regular basis. We have now organized a referral program for our employees which we believe will benefit all of us!
Starting August 1st, when a referred employee is hired and makes it past their initial 90 day probationary period, the direct care staff that referred the employee will received a $50 cash referral bonus. The applicant must list the employee’s first and last name on their application.
Please encourage your referrals to visit our website for a description of the job duties, requirements and information on how to apply online. Referrals can also apply in person at our corporate office, Monday – Friday, 8:30am until 4:30pm.
